Welcome Pack
The
Alsager Railway Association was formed in 1979 by enthusiasts to
generate and combine railway interests in Alsager and the
surrounding area. According to the Constitution, the objectives
of the Association are to promote modelling, photography,
preservation and historical research on railway related
subjects.
It was not until 1985 that a wooden Clubhouse was purchased and
ground leased from Congleton Borough Council off Moorhouse
Avenue, Alsager.
Since that date the facilities have been enhanced with an
extension of the existing premises to allow for expanding
railway layouts. At present our facilities within the Clubhouse
comprise:
- Operating space for
our ‘O’, ‘OO’ and ‘N’ gauge layouts
- A kitchen which also
comprises a small meeting area
- A main meeting room.
- Toilet
Facilities are further being enhanced with additional operating
space for the club layouts together with a larger meeting room
which will be suitable for lectures, competitions and displays.
It is also anticipated in the foreseeable future that access to
the building will be enhanced to meet the requirements of the
Disability Discrimination Act.
Over a
number of years the Association has organised a bi-annual
railway exhibition in the Autumn at the Civic Centre, Alsager.
The proceeds of this exhibition have latterly been used to
enhance the facilities at the Clubhouse and provide capital for
improvements to club layouts. Since 2002, however, annual
exhibitions have been arranged with the venue alternating
between Alsager and the Victoria Centre, Crewe.
The
success of our Association over the last 25 years has been due
to the ability to offer our members the opportunity to further
their skills in the many aspects of railway modelling. Club
layouts include Hassell Green Harbour (‘O’ gauge), Newcastle by
the Water (‘N’ gauge) and a Junior ‘OO’ layout. An exhibition
standard ‘OO’ layout is being constructed at present. The Club
has been successful in promoting junior membership and has
agreed a Child Protection Policy to demonstrate that it takes
its responsibilities very seriously towards this category of
membership. Further details of the Club layouts are given
elsewhere on this web site.
In
February of each year the Club holds an annual modelling and
photographic competition which contains categories of entry for
both junior and adult membership.
In
addition, at the conclusion of February each year the Association
holds its AGM, usually off Club premises at which the
presentation of prizes to competition winners is made, officers
of the Association together with members of the Management
Committee are elected, the financial statements presented and
future plans for the next year outlined to members.
