August & September Progress update

Track laying has now been completed with just a minor change which was the addition of extra storage loops for the branch line on the far right corner (which will be out of public view).

Most of the point motors have been installed, all except those which will include signal operation, these will added once the main wiring commences.

More scenic work has been completed on the hills and gradients around the far left corner and the track has now been painted ready for ballasting. This has been done across all the board joints prior to the cutting of the track across all the boards so that the layout could be dismantled (the first time since track laying began). This enabled Newcastle by the Water to be re-erected to check for running quality prior to it’s outing to the Beckenham Show in October. Work has commenced on the assembly of the overhead mainline gantries produced by N Brass, along with other scenic items.

Progress Photos

Front far left shows the 3 tunnel mouths with the main line passenger, freight & the branch line.

Moving further round the front of the layout to the right with the water feature in the background. It is clear from this angle that the hill(s) have grown & been painted an insipid green as a sealant coat.
A little further to the right which gives a clear view of the concrete sleepered track & the coat of “weathered concrete” that has been given to remove the plastic shine prior to ballasting. Note the completed fiddle yard in the rear.
Here you can see a section of track ballasted across a baseboard joint prior to it being separated
This is a view of the far right corner, the extra storage roads on the upper branch can be seen along with 4 track mainline as it enters the fiddle yard.
