October & November update
The new N gauge layout is progressing well; the baseboards have been aligned & sealed with varnish. A track plan has been devised & a mock-up has been laid using old track & laminated Peco point templates to check for feasibility.

Work will stop for a week as Newcastle by the Water is exhibited at Warrington on the 16/17th, however a name for the layout has been chosen & in honour of our dearly departed friend we have decided upon "Fredstone Lane"

In the meantime a small double track oval with a passing loop & sidings is being laid on a 4' x 3' board to enable the junior members to run any N gauge stock they may wish to.
December Progress update

Since our return from Warrington, the timber was purchased for the inclined double track branch line & the track layout for the scenic portion of the layout agreed.

Cutting & assembly has commenced on the branch with the right hand side of the incline now in place.

The next step will be to repeat the installation of the left hand side incline & to look at the track layout in the fiddle yard.

The small double track oval has been completed, with a passing loop & sidings, & is available to run locos stock etc each club night.

Our current N Gauge layout Newcastle by the Water is at the Wigan exhibition on Dec 12/13, on its return it will remain erected over the Christmas period to allow full length trains to be run over the festive break.
The gradients are now complete & all the boards are now packed away. Our fully operational layout Newcastle by the Water remains erected until our next outings at Stafford & Brighton on February 6/7 & 12 -14th. On our return Newcastle by the Water will again be packed away & work will continue with Fredstone Lane.
Next up will be the emotive subject of track laying, however as we have already laid a mock -up & agreed the plan the only changes needing to be made, should it be necessary, will be to iron out small niggles to improve the potential running quality.
